Charles St. Pierre is truly one of the gifted spey casting instructors in the Pacific Northwest. His character and abilities are renowned throughout the spey community. He has a keen ability to relate spey casting concepts into easily understood terms and his passion to seek anadromous fish with the spey is contagious. His teachings have provided the foundation of my spey casting knowledge and have served me well.

“I began taking instruction from Charles nearly four years ago when I decided I had to learn how to speycast.  I quickly learned there was more to it than I thought but Charles has the unique ability to use examples and explanations that nearly anyone can relate to or understand.  It wasn’t long before I reached a point that I was casting consistently as well as catching fish more consistently and, ultimately, that’s what I was after.  That’s what we’re all after.  Since that time I have spent more time with Charles to work on my casting skills as well as fish together in Washington, British Columbia and Alaska for steelhead and salmon.  I have watched him on many occasions share his knowledge and enthusiasm for speycasting and flyfishing with others and he consistently provides positive results to their abilities.  His depth of knowledge and how he presents that information is the key to what makes him the one of the best.”

“I have been casting a two-handed rod for many years now and have been able to fish quite effectively.  I am self taught and over time I developed a number of bad habits that have hampered the consistency and accuracy of my casting.  Pride aside, I took a private lesson from Charles St. Pierre and it has been the best fishing investment I have ever made.  The expert instruction pinpointed my weaknesses within the first 15 minutes and by the end of the session improvements were noticeable and taking hold.  This “tune-up,” along with practice, has effortlessly added 15-20 feet to my casting and my sub-standard casts have virtually disappeared. I will definitely take further instruction from Charles next year; old-dogs can certainly benefit from a few new tricks.”
