foxee prawn steelhead flies

available at www.FlyFishUSA.com and Solitudefly.com

With winter and spring steelhead fishing in mind and using a blend of natural and synthetic fly tying materials, Charles St. Pierre of Northwest Speycasting has created a unique fly that combines a large silhouette with amazing lifelike action that is also easy to cast. The large profile allows this fly to attract and be seen by fish within a wide range of water conditions. The long and limp natural fibers create incredible lifelike action without trapping air to allow maximum depth penetration quickly and efficiently. The flash core/body creates contrast and reflects light beneath and inside the fly silhouette. Because the fly uses few materials to create its large profile and amazing action, it casts easily and efficiently with both single and double handed rods. This “Hairwing/Temple Dog/Intruder” style fly and the color combinations used for this series have proven themselves to be extremely effective throughout the range of steelhead and salmon streams from northern California to Alaska. The “Foxee Prawn” is currently available from Solitude Fly Company & affiliated dealers.

hoh bo spey series

available at www.FlyFishUSA.com and Solitudefly.com

The “Ho Bo Spey” is a fly that could be fished on the swing for steelhead and salmon year round using anything from a Skagit head and a heavy sink tip to a full floating line and long leader. Named after two legendary Pacific Northwest steelhead rivers and influenced by numerous northwest “Intruder” and “Popsicle” fly variations, this fly was designed with a full calendar years worth of fishing in mind. The ease with which this fly is cast along with its effectiveness and the variations of the depth control needed to fish effectively throughout the fishing year make it an ideal fly to fish for steelhead and salmon nearly anywhere at anytime. Movement and color contrast within its medium size silhouette makes this is an extremely popular fly for a very good reason; consistent proven success. The “Hoh Bo Spey” fly and the color combinations used for this series have proven themselves to be extremely effective throughout the range of steelhead and salmon streams here in North America from northern California to Alaska. The “Hoh Bo Spey” fly is currently available from Solitude Fly Company & affiliated dealers.

Inspired by the “Hairwing/Temple Dog” common to the northern European Atlantic salmon fly fishery, Charles St. Pierre has created another unique fly that combines a medium/large silhouette with amazing lifelike action using natural and synthetic materials that is also easy to cast. Simple, elegant, and highly effective, the long profile allows this fly to attract and be seen by fish within a wide range of water conditions. The long and limp materials create incredible lifelike action without trapping air to allow maximum depth penetration quickly and efficiently. The flash core/hackled body creates contrast and reflects light beneath and inside the fly silhouette. The “Foxee Dog” fly and the color combinations used for this series have proven themselves to be extremely effective throughout the range of steelhead and salmon streams here in North America from northern California to Alaska. The “Foxee Dog” fly is currently available from Solitude Fly Company & affiliated dealers.

GP spey flies

available at www.FlyFishUSA.com and Solitudefly.com

Innovative Northwest steelhead, salmon, and speycasting angler Charles St. Pierre has created a unique fly by combining the best attributes of two legendary flies to form a blended version of the classic Spey and General Practitioner. With the addition of spey style guinea hackles instead of the classic saddle hackle, the fly has a slightly longer and larger profile to increase its action and its ability to attract fish. Marabou is also added to the collar to increase fly action and is dressed lightly to increase its ability to sink and be cast easily for both single hand and two handed casters. The tinsel ribbed rear half of the fly along with the bright synthetic dubbed body creates a subtle glow and flash to the core of the silhouette. The tail, eyes, and shellback are classically set and add to the overall natural appearance and appeal of the fly. This “Spey/General Practitioner” styled fly and the color combinations used for this series have proven themselves to be extremely effective throughout the range of steelhead and salmon streams from northern California to Alaska. This is a personal favorite fly and one of the best all around “Go to” flies in the anadromous angling business for nearly any fishing situation and fishing season. The “GP Spey” fly is currently available from Solitude Fly Company & affiliated dealers.
